Chelsea make move to sign Julian Alvarez

Chelsea are reportedly  looking to beat Barcelona to the signature of Atletico Madrid attacking mainstay Julian Alvarez.

Julian Alvarez’s future has become a massive talking point amidst interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world. The Argentine international could end up making a move away from Atletico Madrid in a few months. Chelsea and Barcelona are two of the biggest contenders for his signature.

According to a report from Fichajes, the Blues are looking to beat the Catalan giants to his signature. They have already initiated a move to ensure they get their hands on the Atletico Madrid star, who has been in fine form since moving to Spain.

After coming up the ranks at River Plate, Julian Alvarez had an impressive stint at Manchester City. Despite not being a regular starter, he racked up crazy numbers. Atletico Madrid ended up signing him in the summer of 2024 to bolster their attack.

The Argentine international has managed to establish himself as one of the mainstays at Atletico Madrid. In the ongoing campaign, he has been involved in 32 matches and has contributed towards 16 goals.

Two European giants want Alvarez

Julian Alvarez is one of the central figures at the club, and his contract runs until the summer of 2030. Despite that, there has been a lot of talk about his future in recent weeks. Chelsea and Barcelona are reportedly keen on acquiring his services, and the player seems interested in making the jump in the summer.

The West London club have been keeping tabs on him for some time. They consider him a perfect fit for their project, as he is a proven goalscorer who still has room for growth. More importantly, he can be a part of their long-term plans.

Not only can he lead the line, but Alvarez is also equally effective in a supporting role. Chelsea have already discreetly started exploring a potential transfer. They have quietly made a move to beat Barcelona. The player’s representatives have held talks with the Blues in London.

These were preliminary talks, a clear sign that Chelsea have concrete interest and are looking to understand the player’s situation. Barcelona are also in the mix, but their financial situation makes things very complicated. For now, the Blaugrana are only waiting and watching to see if there is a great market opportunity.

While both European giants want him, Atletico Madrid won’t let him go on the cheap. Given how important he is to them, they will demand a fortune for the World Cup winner.
