Mamadou Sarr poised to return to Chelsea, Aaron Anselmino set for RC Strasbourg loan

Mamadou Sarr is set to return to Chelsea from his loan spell at RC Strasbourg, while Aaron Anselmino will be joining the Ligue 1 club.

Chelsea are desperately looking for a new centre-back, as they look to revive their backline midway through the 2025/26 season. Liam Rosenior’s team have been making a lot of moves, but they have not been able to get the man they want.

While Aaron Anselmino has returned from his loan spell from Borussia Dortmund, he is not a part of the manager’s plans. According to Ben Jacobs, the 20-year-old centre-back will instead be joining sister club RC Strasbourg on loan.

With Aaron Anselmino on the verge of joining the French club, the Blues can now recall Mamadou Sarr, who has been doing wonders for the Ligue 1 outfit. The 20-year-old Senegalese international came up the ranks. His impressive rise put him on the radar of BlueCo.

They ended up signing him for Strasbourg in the summer of 2024. On the back of his performances, he earned a move to Chelsea the following summer. Since he was unlikely to get regular minutes at the London club, he stayed with the French club on a season-long loan.

The move has certainly worked in his favour. The 20-year-old defender has been involved in 17 matches and has racked up close to 1,500 minutes. He has been one of their standout performers, and it has forced Chelsea to consider recalling him.

Sarr to return to Stamford Bridge

With Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo out injured, the Blues are quite light at the back. Liam Rosenior, who has taken charge mid-season, is keen on having more quality at the back. The West London club have been working quite hard, but they haven’t been able to find the perfect fit.

As a result, Chelsea have decided to recall Sarr. He has been in impressive form and could prove to be a valuable player in the second half. While Strasbourg would have loved to have him until the end of the season, they will have to work with Anselmino instead.

Following a disappointing spell at Borussia Dortmund, the Argentine defender will be eager to get back on track. With Aaron Anselmino all set to move to the French club, Mamadou Sarr’s return to Stamford Bridge also looks certain. He is expected to travel to London on Monday if all goes as planned.
