Chelsea optimistic of signing Jeremy Jacquet this month

Chelsea are confident about beating Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Madrid to the signature of French defensive sensation Jeremy Jacquet.

Jeremy Jacquet’s sensational rise at Stade Rennais hasn’t gone unnoticed. Multiple top clubs from across Europe are after his signature. But according to a report from TEAMtalk, Chelsea are optimistic about beating the competition to his signature.

Jacquet has come up the ranks at the French club. After getting promoted to their first team at the start of 2024, he had a year-long loan spell at Clermont Foot. On the back of it, he has managed to establish himself in Rennes’ first team.

The 20-year-old centre-back has made quite a name for himself on the back of his performances. He is widely regarded as one of the best young defenders in the world. He has been a constant feature at the back for the Ligue 1 outfit this season.

Because of his sensational rise and massive potential, European giants are ready to break the bank to prise him away from Stade Rennais. While his contract runs until 2029, there is a real possibility of a permanent transfer in the near future.

Chelsea, Real Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool are the biggest contenders for his signature. Arsenal want to strengthen their defensive rotation, Liverpool seek more quality at the back amidst uncertainty around Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate’s future. Meanwhile, Los Blancos are looking to prepare for life without David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.

Chelsea to win the race for Jacquet?

While all three clubs are keen on his signature, Chelsea are confident about beating them in the race. The Blues remain locked in negotiations to sign the 20-year-old defender, who they consider to be one of their defensive pillars moving forward.

They are confident about striking a deal, but are also willing to accept that he would arrive after the end of this season. Rennes are ready to sanction his departure but want a club-record fee. They are holding out for in excess of €60 million.

While Chelsea’s offer hasn’t exceeded €50 million, talks continue with optimism from all parties that a common ground could be reached. As things stand, the Blues are set to win the race.
