Ajax eyeing last-ditch Christian Norgaard swoop

Ajax will reportedly look to sign 31-year-old Danish international Christian Norgaard from Arsenal in a late move in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Christian Norgaard is the subject of interest from Ajax. The Eredivisie giants are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the final week of the winter transfer window. So, the 31-year-old Arsenal midfielder has emerged as a target for the Dutch club.

Talks between Ajax and Arsenal have already begun, with the Eredivisie title hopefuls “determined to strengthen their squad for a fierce title push” in the second half of the 2025/26 season. Meanwhile, Arsenal will demand around €15-17 million to part ways with Norgaard in the winter transfer window.

How has Christian Norgaard fared at Arsenal?

Christian Norgaard has had to bide his time since joining Arsenal from Brentford in the summer transfer window. Born in Copenhagen, the Dane spent his formative years in his homeland and graduated from the youth division at Lyngby BK. However, after stints in Germany and Italy, the 31-year-old rose in prominence during his spell with Brentford.

The Danish international has managed only 678 minutes of game time in 12 appearances thus far in the 2025/26 season. However, Norgaard’s stock is high, and a move away from Arsenal may be on the cards, only six months after he arrived from Brentford. Ajax will attempt to secure his services in the last week of the winter transfer window.

Eredivisie move on the horizon?

Ajax’s interest in Christian Norgaard makes sense. The Dutch heavyweights have been combing the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, as they want to add to their squad for a title push in the second half of the 2025/26 season.

Several candidates, including Manuel Ugarte, have thus emerged on Ajax’s wishlist, with Norgaard also a viable target. However, a last-ditch move may not be straightforward, as Arsenal will demand around €15-17 million to part ways with the 31-year-old Dane in the final week of the winter transfer window.

While talks between Arsenal and Ajax have begun, the Eredivisie giants “are considering their financial structure carefully to ensure the deal fits within their strict financial plan” for the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see if they land the €15-17 million-rated Danish midfielder in the coming weeks. Norgaard may become the second Arsenal player to join Ajax this month, as Oleksandr Zinchenko is closing in on moving to the Netherlands.
