AC Milan pounce as AS Roma move for Radu Dragusin stalls

AC Milan will reportedly attempt to beat AS Roma in the race to sign 23-year-old Romanian international Radu Dragusin from Tottenham Hotspur this month.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tuttosport, Radu Dragusin is the subject of interest from AC Milan. The Serie A title hopefuls are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 23-year-old Tottenham centre-back has emerged as a target for the Rossoneri.

The Italian heavyweights have intensified their efforts to sign the former Juventus prospect by intervening amid AS Roma’s stalling talks with Tottenham. Additionally, Massimiliano Allegri has approved AC Milan’s move for Dragusin. Meanwhile, Tottenham will demand a purchase obligation clause if they sanction the youngster’s loan departure in the winter transfer window.

How has Radu Dragusin fared at Tottenham?

Radu Dragusin has failed to live up to the billing since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Genoa in a deal worth €30 million in January 2024. The 23-year-old arrived in North London amid hype surrounding him after his exploits for Genoa. However, the youngster has struggled to become a regular for Tottenham, and a long-term knee injury kept him in the treatment room for most of 2025.

Dragusin has managed only 39 appearances thus far for Tottenham, amassing 2,610 minutes of game time. Meanwhile, the Romanian defender’s stock remains high, and a return to Serie A may be on the cards. AC Milan and AS Roma are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Serie A return on the horizon?

AC Milan’s interest in Radu Dragusin makes sense. While Massimiliano Allegri has several centre-backs in his squad, he wants more options for the central defensive unit to sustain the challenge of competing for the Serie A title in the second half of the 2025/26 season. Several candidates have thus emerged on AC Milan’s radar, with Dragusin also a viable target.

As for AS Roma, Gian Piero Gasperini has a similar stance to Massimiliano Allegri. The Italian tactician wants a new centre-back to keep pace with Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Napoli in the Serie A title race in the second half of the 2025/26 season after enduring a topsy-turvy ride in the last few weeks. So, Dragusin is an option worth considering for the Giallorossi.

However, AS Roma’s talks with Tottenham have not progressed, as they want to include a purchase option instead of inserting an obligation clause in the possible loan agreement. That has allowed AC Milan to pounce, with Allegri approving the move for Dragusin. So, even though the 23-year-old is keen on joining AS Roma, his next destination may be San Siro.
