According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Alessandro Buongiorno is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Radu Dragusin’s future. So, the 26-year-old Napoli defender has emerged as a target for Spurs.

The latest report has revealed that the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are ready to launch a bid to sign the Turin-born centre-back if they part ways with Dragusin in the coming days. With Buongiorno falling in the pecking order, a move away from Napoli may be on the cards amid his links with Tottenham.

Alessandro Buongiorno and his career so far

Alessandro Buongiorno has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Napoli from Torino in July 2024. A native of Turin, the 26-year-old spent his formative years in his hometown, progressing through the ranks at Torino FC before breaking into the Serie A club’s first-team squad.

While the Italian international has been solid for most of his spell with Napoli, he has been in and out of the starting lineup this term. Buongiorno has made nearly 50 appearances for the Serie A champions thus far while chipping in with one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, the player’s stock is high, with Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

London calling?

Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Alessandro Buongiorno is understandable. The Lilywhites have been scouring the market for a centre-back amid uncertainties surrounding Radu Dragusin’s long-term future. The Romanian international is pushing to return to Serie A in the winter transfer window amid his links with AS Roma.

Several candidates, including Pierre Kalulu, have thus emerged on Tottenham’s wishlist, with Buongiorno also a viable target. The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners are ready to launch a bid to sign the Napoli defender in the winter transfer window if they part ways with Dragusin in the coming weeks.

With the 26-year-old struggling for regular game time at the Serie A club, it will not be surprising to see him departing from the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium this year. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Buongiorno.
