Emiliano Martinez agents meet Inter Milan to discuss summer move

Inter Milan will reportedly look to sign 33-year-old Argentine international Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa in the winter transfer window.

According to an update by Sky Sport Italia journalist Luca Bendoni, Emiliano Martinez is the subject of interest from Inter Milan. The Serie A giants are eager to reinforce their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the summer transfer window. So, the Aston Villa shot-stopper has emerged as a target for the Nerazzurri.

The latest report has revealed that the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner’s representatives “were spotted in Milan on Tuesday”, and they “had a meeting with Inter officials” to explore the conditions of a possible deal in the summer transfer window. The Italian heavyweights have kept the Aston Villa shot-stopper on their shortlist to replace Yann Sommer ahead of the 2025/26 season.

How has Emiliano Martinez fared at Aston Villa?

Emiliano Martinez has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Aston Villa from Arsenal in a deal worth £17 million in September 2020. The 32-year-old has made considerable progress in the last half a decade, having become a mainstay between the sticks for his club and country while enjoying tremendous success in international football.

The Argentine international has made nearly 250 appearances for Aston Villa thus far while keeping 76 clean sheets and conceding 276 goals. Meanwhile, Martinez’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Inter Milan will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Serie A adventure on the horizon?

Inter Milan’s interest in Emiliano Martinez makes sense. The Serie A heavyweights are scouring the market for a goalkeeper heading into the summer transfer window, as Yann Sommer is in the twilight of his career. The veteran Swiss goalkeeper may leave Inter Milan after the 2025/26 season ends.

Several goalkeepers have thus emerged on Inter Milan’s wishlist, with Martinez also a viable target. The latest update has revealed that the World Cup winner’s representatives have recently been in Milan, and they met the Serie A club’s officials to explore the conditions of a summer deal.

The 32-year-old Argentine international is on Inter Milan’s shortlist to replace Sommer ahead of the 2025/26 season. However, with other goalkeepers like Guglielmo Vicario also on Inter Milan’s wishlist, it will be interesting to see who replaces Sommer at San Siro this summer.
