Paris FC in transfer tussle to sign Issa Diop from Fulham

Paris FC will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old French defender Issa Diop from Fulham in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Issa Diop is the subject of interest from Paris FC. The Blues are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Fulham centre-back has emerged as a target for the Ligue 1 outfit.

The latest update has revealed that “there is nothing formal at this stage” as we approach the final days of the winter transfer window. However, Paris FC will attempt to sign players “not playing regularly enough” in the Premier League, and they have also set their sights on Tottenham Hotspur attacking prospect Mathys Tel.

How has Issa Diop fared at Fulham?

Issa Diop has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Fulham from West Ham United in August 2022. Born in Toulouse, the Frenchman spent most of his formative years in his hometown, starting his youth career with Balma SC before graduating from the youth division at Toulouse FC. The 29-year-old had hype surrounding him when he moved to West Ham in July 2018.

However, the French defender has been in and out of the starting lineup during his spell with Fulham, and he has managed only 773 minutes of game time across 12 appearances in all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season. Nevertheless, Diop’s stock remains high, with Paris FC among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Ligue 1 return on the horizon?

Paris FC’s interest in Issa Diop is understandable. The Blues have been scouring the market for players who can help them avoid relegation from Ligue 1 in the second half of the 2025/25 season. While Stephane Gilli’s men are seven points clear of the drop zone, they need new players to retain their spot in the standings and move into the top half of the table.

Several candidates, including Mathys Tel, have thus emerged on Paris FC’s wishlist. However, while the Tottenham Hotspur attacking prospect is a viable target to bolster their offensive unit, the Ligue 1 upstarts have set their sights on Diop to reinforce their defensive department.

The latest update has revealed that “there is nothing formal at this stage” as we approach the final days of the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Paris FC can land the 29-year-old Frenchman in the coming days.
