Fenerbahce eyeing January move for Yoane Wissa

Fenerbahce will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old DR Congo international Yoane Wissa from Newcastle United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Turkish outlet Sporx, Yoane Wissa is the subject of interest from Fenerbahce. The Turkish Super Lig giants are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window amid uncertainties surrounding Youssef En-Nesyri’s long-term future. So, the 29-year-old Newcastle United striker has emerged as a target for them.

The Yellow Canaries have accelerated their efforts to sign a striker in the winter transfer window as well-known clubs continue to join the battle for En-Nesyri’s signature. So, they are plotting an audacious move for Wissa, although it is unclear if Newcastle United will sanction his departure.

How has Yoane Wissa fared at Newcastle United?

Yoane Wissa has been slow off the blocks since joining Newcastle United from Brentford in a deal worth £50 million in the summer transfer window. A knee injury kept the 29-year-old in the treatment room for most of the first half of the 2025/26 season.

Since regaining fitness, Wissa has managed only two goals in 12 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle United thus far. Nevertheless, the DR Congo international striker’s stock remains high, with several well-known clubs, including Fenerbahce, keen on securing his services in the winter transfer window.

Will Wissa leave Newcastle United already?

Fenerbahce’s interest in Yoane Wissa is understandable. The Yellow Canaries have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window, as they are sweating over Youssef En-Nesyri’s long-term future. Widespread reports have thus linked Fenerbahce with several strikers, including Beto.

However, Wissa is also a viable target, and his qualities make him a like-for-like replacement for En-Nesyri amid his links with Everton. However, it is unclear if Newcastle United will sanction the French-born attacker’s departure in the winter transfer window, considering they only secured his services four months ago.

Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for Wissa after a slow start to life at the Tyneside club. Fenerbahce will hope they can land the 29-year-old DR Congo international before they accept a bid for En-Nesyri.
