Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea are pushing hard to secure the services of Stade Rennais defensive sensation Jeremy Jacquet.
Chelsea are looking to reinforce Liam Rosenior’s squad before the end of the transfer window. They want to add another top-quality centre-back to the mix. According to Kaveh Solhekol via Sky Sports, Stade Rennais’ Jeremy Jacquet is their priority target, and they are pushing hard to strike a deal for him.
Jacquet joined Stade Rennais’ youth setup in the summer of 2019. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team at the start of 2024. They immediately loaned the youngster out to Clermont Foot to ensure he gets regular minutes, and following an impressive spell away from the club, he has finally managed to establish himself in their team.
The Frenchman has made a total of 29 appearances for their senior team, 17 of which have come in the ongoing campaign. The 20-year-old centre-back has been one of their standout performers, and it has resulted in interest from across Europe.
While his contract runs until the summer of 2029, Rennais will struggle to keep hold of Jeremy Jacquet for long, given the amount of interest in him. Chelsea seem to be the most serious suitor, and they are pushing hard to add him to their squad this month.
Chelsea’s pursuit of Jacquet
Liam Rosenior seeks more quality at the back, and Jeremy Jacquet is considered an ideal fit for his system and the club’s project. They are in talks to sign the 20-year-old, but there is a massive difference in the valuation of both parties.
While speaking about Chelsea’s pursuit of Jacquet, Solhekol said, “Chelsea are in talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet. The issue of course, as is so often the case, is coming up with the price that is acceptable for all parties. Rennes want around €65m (£56m), which would be a club record sale. Chelsea perhaps feel that is a little bit too much. They are trying to get him cheaper than that, around £45m.
“He is not the only player Chelsea are looking at. They do have a couple of other centre-back options they are looking at. Jacquet is definitely their primary target and they are working hard to get this deal done before the window closes.”
Both clubs are looking to reach a common ground with regard to the fee. The French outfit are looking for around £56 million. But Chelsea feel that their valution is a touch on the higher side. They are looking to negotiate a lower fee, something closer to £45 million.
Jacquet is a priority target for them, but they do not seem keen on overpaying for him. The Blues do have other targets in mind, in case they fail to strike a deal for the 20-year-old centre-back.
