Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Nigerian international Raphael Onyedika from Belgian outfit Club Brugge in the winter transfer window.
According to an update by Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Raphael Onyedika is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder in the winter transfer window amid concerns about Boubacar Kamara’s fitness. So, the Club Brugge star has emerged as a target for the West Midlands outfit.
The Premier League high-flyers have submitted an enquiry to discuss a possible move for the African midfielder in the winter transfer window. However, a January deal will not be straightforward, with Tavolieri suggesting that “Galatasaray remains the most likely destination” for Onyedika.
Who is Raphael Onyedika?
Raphael Onyedika has established himself as one of the most underrated midfielders in Europe since joining Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in August 2022. The 24-year-old has made considerable progress in the last three and a half years, establishing himself as a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Belgian outfit.
The Nigerian international has made over 150 appearances for Club Brugge thus far while chipping in with eight goals and five assists. Meanwhile, Onyedika’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Aston Villa will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Raphael Onyedika makes sense. The Villans are combing the market for a holding midfielder this month amid concerns about Boubacar Kamara’s fitness. The French international has picked up an injury that will keep him in the treatment room for the foreseeable future.
So, Aston Villa will dip into the market for a holding midfielder in the final weeks of the winter transfer window. Several candidates, including Arthur Avom, have thus emerged on the West Midlands club’s wishlist, with Onyedika also a viable target. The Villans have submitted an enquiry to discuss a deal for the 24-year-old, who finished third in the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.
However, a January deal will not be straightforward for Aston Villa, with Sacha Tavolieri claiming that “Galatasaray remains the most likely destination” for Onyedika. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Nigerian international.
