Manchester City have an agreement in place to sign Crystal Palace defensive mainstay Marc Guehi in the ongoing transfer window.
Manchester City have been making some big moves in the winter transfer window, as they look to bolster their chances of pushing for all major titles. They have already managed to beat the competition to the signature of Antoine Semenyo, and according to Fabrizio Romano, Pep Guardiola’s team are now on the verge of signing Marc Guehi.
The Manchester-based giants have managed to strike a deal with Crystal Palace and have also got the green light from the player’s end. If all goes according to plan, Guehi will soon be playing under the Spanish manager.
Guehi has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining the Eagles in the summer of 2021. On the back of his consistent performances, multiple top clubs were after his signature last summer.
Liverpool were on the verge of securing his services. Everything was in place for him to join Arne Slot’s team on last summer’s deadline day. However, the deal collapsed in the final stages, and he ended up staying at Selhurst Park.
With his contract running out at the end of the season, Guehi was set to leave the club as a free agent. Multiple top clubs, including Liverpool, were ready to pounce on the opportunity to sign him for free.
City have struck a deal for Guehi
However, City have beaten them to his signature, as they have secured his services in the winter window. Following injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias, Guardiola was desperate to bring in a world-class centre-back.
He pushed the club to sign Guehi, and they have managed to strike a deal with the Eagles, who have opened the door to his exit mid-season, as they don’t want to lose out on him for free in five months time.
Palace have accepted an offer worth around £20 million for their 25-year-old centre-back. Guehi has also accepted the move to City, and the move could become official in the next hours.
