Celtic, Derby County vying for David Datro Fofana

Celtic and Derby County are vying to sign David Datro Fofana this month, with Chelsea likely to be in favour of a loan or permanent switch.

According to Sky Sports, David Datro Fofana is attracting plenty of interest in the market this month as Celtic and Derby County are among those vying for the 23-year-old Chelsea flop. The Blues could be open to sending him on a domestic loan or selling him permanently, and it would suit their cause this month.

David Datro Fofana is another one of those young signings who could not crack the code at Chelsea. Secured from Molde in the January transfer window of 2023, the 23-year-old has spent a few loan spells away from the club, and currently plays for Turkish first division side Fatih Karagumruk.

The 23-year-old clearly does not have a future at Chelsea, as between his brief stay at Stamford Bridge and the several loan spells, he has featured just four times for the Blues’ first team. His performances for Fatih Karagumruk have attracted plenty of interest, with the Ivorian striker involved in seven goals across all competitions for the Turkish side.

Chelsea are actively looking to free up an international loan space in their otherwise stacked system. The potential sale of David Datro Fofana, either on a domestic loan or a permanent sale, would help their cause. It appears there are a few clubs looking at the striker as a potential option this month.

Derby County are one of those interested, with the Championship mid-table side eager for signings that would help them push towards a playoff spot. A spell in the Championship would benefit Fofana as well as Chelsea should they send him out on loan there, but they are not alone, as Celtic are also in the race.

Celtic to sign David Datro Fofana?

Celtic tried to sign Fofana back in the summer, but the 23-year-old Chelsea flop had then agreed terms with Charlton, only for the move to fall through in the eleventh hour. Two weeks later, he was off to Turkey to join Fatih Karagmruk, and now, he could be back in the UK if one of Celtic or Derby County manages to sign him.

As for Celtic, they had considered a departure for Japanese international Daizen Maeda in January if they could find a replacement. David Datro Fofana looks like the player in frame for the role, and the Scottish giants might make their move. It remains to be seen whether this would be a loan or a permanent transfer, as Celtic are desperate for quality reinforcements this month to boost their chances this season.
