Gremio and West Ham United are reportedly in talks over a possible deal for 30-cap Argentine international Guido Rodriguez in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Guido Rodriguez is the subject of interest from Gremio. The Rei de Copas are eager to bolster their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 31-year-old West Ham United outcast has emerged as a target for the Brazilian outfit.
Gremio and West Ham are in talks over a deal for the experienced South American midfielder, who has no future at the London Stadium. However, a deal will not be straightforward, as Rodriguez is also a target for Juventus. Meanwhile, the Hammers are “keen to offload him” in the winter transfer window.
How has Guido Rodriguez fared at West Ham United?
Guido Rodriguez has hit a brick wall since completing a Bosman move to West Ham United in August 2024. The 31-year-old arrived at the East London club amid hype and fanfare surrounding him after an impressive spell with Real Betis for nearly half a decade.
However, Rodriguez’s stock has steadily fallen, and he has managed only 252 minutes of game time across six appearances in all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season. Nevertheless, the 30-cap Argentine international midfielder’s stock remains high, with Juventus and Gremio among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.
Serie A move on the horizon?
Juventus’s interest in Guido Rodriguez makes sense. The Serie A giants have been combing the market for a holding midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, as Luciano Spalletti wants more options in the middle of the park for the second half of the 2025/26 season. Several candidates, including Sandro Tonali, have thus emerged on Juventus’s wishlist.
However, a deal for Tonali is improbable, as Newcastle United will unlikely entertain any bids to part ways with the Italian international midway through the 2025/26 season. As for Gremio, the Rei de Copas are eager to enjoy a better 2026 season after finishing ninth in the Serie A standings last term. Rodriguez has thus emerged as a viable target for the Brazilian club.
Gremio and West Ham have already held talks over a deal for the 30-cap Argentine international, and the Brazilian club may have leapfrogged Juventus in the battle for his signature. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 31-year-old as he looks for stability to bolster his World Cup hopes.
