Manchester City will reportedly look to sign 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international Amar Dedic from Portuguese club SL Benfica this year.
According to a report by Bosnian outlet Sport1, Amar Dedic is the subject of interest from Manchester City. The Citizens are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a right-back this year. So, the 23-year-old SL Benfica full-back has emerged as a target for the Premier League club.
Meanwhile, the Portuguese giants will demand around €50-60 million to part ways with the Austria-born defender. While a summer move is likelier, a deal may even materialise in the winter transfer window amid Manchester City’s requirement for a right-back.
How has Amar Dedic fared in Portugal?
Amar Dedic has established himself as one of Europe’s most dependable full-backs since joining SL Benfica from Red Bull Salzburg this past summer. Born in Zell am See, the 23-year-old spent his formative years in Austria, starting his youth career with LUV Graz before graduating from the youth division at Red Bull Salzburg.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been the first-choice right-back for Benfica, amassing nearly 2,500 minutes of game time in 28 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with one goal and three assists. Meanwhile, Dedic’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester City will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature this year.
Premier League adventure beckons?
Manchester City’s interest in Amar Dedic is understandable. The Citizens are scouring the market for a right-back, as Rico Lewis has failed to impress Pep Guardiola. That has compelled the Manchester City manager to utilise Matheus Nunes, a midfielder, as his first-choice right-back this season.
Several candidates, including Michael Kayode, have thus emerged on Manchester City’s wishlist, with Dedic also a viable target. However, the Austria-born full-back will not come cheap, as SL Benfica will demand around €50-60 million to part ways with him.
Meanwhile, the report has revealed that Manchester City may launch a bid to sign the youngster in the winter transfer window. The Citizens have already completed a big-money move this month by securing Antoine Semenyo’s services. It will be interesting to see if the 23-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international also arrives at the Etihad before the window closes.
