Borussia Dortmund will not launch a bid to sign 22-year-old Norwegian international Oscar Bobb from Manchester City in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Sport BILD, as relayed by Sport Witness, Oscar Bobb is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Bundesliga heavyweights are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the winter transfer window. So, the 22-year-old Manchester City winger has emerged as a target for the German club.
The Black and Yellows have been ready to launch a bid to sign Bobb from Manchester City. However, Borussia Dortmund will shelve the move for the Oslo native, as they believe he would cost around €70 million “once transfer fee, salary and agent fees had all been tallied up”. That exceeds the Bundesliga outfit’s budget for the winter transfer window.
Who is Oscar Bobb?
Oscar Bobb has made gradual progress since making a senior bow at Manchester City. Born in Oslo, the young winger spent most of his formative years in Norway before joining the Premier League club in July 2019. The 22-year-old broke into the first-team squad at the onset of the 2023/24 season, but fitness issues have plagued him since then.
While the Norwegian international has not racked up a lot of game time at Manchester City, he has made nearly 50 appearances thus far while chipping in with three goals and four assists. However, Bobb’s long-term future at the Etihad is uncertain, as Antoine Semenyo is closing in on joining Manchester City. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Borussia Dortmund.
What next?
Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Oscar Bobb is understandable. The Bundesliga giants have been scouring the market for a wide attacker heading into the winter transfer window, as Niko Kovac wants more firepower in the final third. So, they recently set their sights on Bobb.
The Manchester City winger’s desire to depart from the Etihad boosted Borussia Dortmund’s prospects. However, a January move may not materialise, as the Black and Yellows believe he would cost around €70 million “once transfer fee, salary and agent fees had all been tallied up”. That exceeds the Bundesliga outfit’s budget for the winter transfer window.
Recent reports have revealed that Borussia Dortmund must offload players before signing Bobb. With the German giants shelving the move for the 22-year-old Norwegian international, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young Manchester City winger.
