Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has returned to Manchester City from Celtic and is reportedly set to complete a loan move to Bundesliga club FC Koln in the coming days.
According to an update by reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is set to join FC Koln on loan for the remainder of the season. The Bundesliga outfit will also have an option to seal a permanent deal for the 20-year-old in the summer transfer window. The youngster will undergo his medical tests today and join the camp latest by Tuesday.
FC Koln need to improve their defensive unit, and they have decided to sign the 20-year-old on a short-term deal. Recent reports have also linked the bottom-half Bundesliga club with other centre-backs, including Sebastiaan Bornauw.
It will be interesting to see if he can adapt to German football quickly and help them improve. The talented young defender needs to play regularly at this stage of his career to continue his development. He is unlikely to get those opportunities at Manchester City. Joining the Bundesliga club could provide him with the platform he needs. It could give him invaluable experience.
The 20-year-old will be hoping to impress in Germany and return to Manchester City as a better player at the end of the season. He will be hoping to force his way into Pep Guardiola’s first-team plans.
Meanwhile, signing the Englishman on loan will be a low-cost acquisition for FC Koln, and they will hope that he can make an immediate impact. The Billy Goats have endured a disappointing season so far, and they will look to bounce back during the second half of the campaign. They are currently in the bottom half of the Bundesliga table.
Loan move could be ideal for Simpson-Pusey
Simpson-Pusey is a talented player with a bright future. If the 20-year-old fails to establish himself as a first-team player at Manchester City, he will have plenty of opportunities to move elsewhere. Impressing during the loan spell in January will certainly open several doors for the young defender in the summer.
It will be interesting to see if he can hit the ground running in the Bundesliga. There is no doubt that the English defensive prospect is a talented player, and he has the quality to adapt to German football.
Meanwhile, Manchester City will also hope that the 20-year-old can impress in Germany. If they feel he is not good enough to play for the first team in the future, they can sell him for a reasonable fee on the back of a successful loan spell. However, with FC Koln having the option to seal a permanent deal, they will be in control of his future.
