Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are reportedly all set to battle Tottenham in their pursuit of Manchester City attacker Omar Marmoush.
According to Dean Jones via TEAMtalk, Aston Villa and Tottenham are keen on signing Omar Marmoush in the ongoing transfer window, as they look to bolster their attack. The Villans have recently entered the battle for his signature, while Spurs have already made an enquiry.
Omar Marmoush’s time at Manchester City
Marmoush made quite a name for himself while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt, and on the back of his impressive performances, Manchester City forked out £59 million to add him to their squad at the start of 2025.
The Egyptian international had a prominent role in their team initially. However, things have not been that great for him of late. Pep Guardiola has only handed him two stars in the Premier League and just one in the UEFA Champions League so far this season.
Having racked up less than 400 minutes of first-team action, the 26-year-old is clearly frustrated, and rival clubs are looking to make the most out of this situation. While he is currently away on international duty with Egypt for the African Cup of Nations, Aston Villa and Tottenham are keen on signing him.
While speaking about Marmoush’s future, Jones said, “There are whispers emerging out of Egypt that Aston Villa are making a move for Marmoush. The idea is fascinating, and as a club that have tried to bring Rashford and Sancho and Elliott back to life in the Premier League, it is reasonable to imagine that they fancy Marmoush to be next.
“His game time at Man City hasn’t been what he would have hoped, and we have reported that Villa are on the lookout for another player for the front line to give them a better chance of sustaining the form they have shown recently.
“But we have also been told recently, though, that Man City do not want to lose Marmoush. That was in connection with Tottenham enquiries about the player – so I cannot imagine they would have too much appetite to let him join Villa, who are an even bigger threat to them this season.”
Aston Villa, Tottenham are keen on Marmoush
Aston Villa have been in sensational form this season. They are second on the table and very much in the race for the Premier League title. To maintain their form, Unai Emery wants more firepower in the final third. Marmoush could be an exceptional acquisition for them, as he has an eye for goal and can feature anywhere in attack.
Aston Villa have already entered the race, and they are ready to rival Tottenham, who are also keen on reinforcing Thomas Frank’s team after a disappointing first half. The Dane wants more competition in attack, and the 26-year-old could prove to be a valuable addition, with Randal Kolo Muani not having the desired impact and Dominic Solanke struggling to stay fit.
Spurs have already enquired about his availability. But as things stand, Manchester City have no intention of sanctioning his departure mid-season. Since they won’t let him join Tottenham, a move to Aston Villa is even more unlikely, as they are a direct threat to their title hopes this season.
