West Ham United and Lazio have reportedly struck an agreement over a deal worth €29 million for 27-year-old Argentine striker Valentin Castellanos.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Valentin Castellanos has been the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers have been eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing a striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Lazio centre-forward has been a target for the East London outfit.
The Serie A giants have sanctioned the South American attacker’s departure in the early days of the winter transfer window. Castellanos is now on the verge of joining West Ham, and the Irons will pay €29 million to secure his services and complete their second January signing after Pablo.
How has Valentin Castellanos fared at Lazio?
Valentin Castellanos has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Lazio from New York City FC in July 2023. A native of Mendoza, the well-travelled 27-year-old spent his formative years in South America and graduated from the youth division at Club Universidad de Chile. Since then, the player has represented clubs in Uruguay, the USA, and Spain before landing on his feet in Italy.
Meanwhile, a hamstring injury has hampered Castellanos in the 2025/26 season, as he has managed only 736 minutes of game time in 11 outings while chipping in with two goals and three assists. However, the player’s time with Lazio will end this month, with West Ham United on the cusp of securing his services in a deal worth €29 million.
London calling
Valentin Castellanos has been on West Ham United’s radar for a long time. The continued interest has been understandable, as the Hammers have been scouring the market for a striker heading into the winter transfer window. They have already sanctioned Niclas Fullkrug’s departure, with the German international completing a loan move to AC Milan to end his troubled stint at the London Stadium.
Additionally, Callum Wilson is approaching the twilight of his career. So, Castellanos emerged as a viable target for West Ham. The Lazio striker is now on the verge of ending his spell with the Serie A club and moving to East London.
West Ham and Lazio have an agreement over a deal worth €29 million, with the 27-year-old Argentine striker ready to sign a long-term contract with the Premier League outfit. So, the Hammers have started the winter transfer window in style after striking deals for two strikers, Pablo and Taty Castellanos.
