Real Madrid turn down offer for Rodrygo Goes

Real Madrid have reportedly turned down an €80 million bid from Manchester City for Rodrygo Goes, with the club open to negotiating.

According to Fichajes, Manchester City have reportedly seen an €80 million bid for Rodrygo Goes fall through. Real Madrid do not consider the structure of the offer as sufficient enough to let a player of the 24-year-old’s calibre leave for, as they are open to negotiating on their terms.

Rodrygo Goes’ future could be one of the big talking points at the Santiago Bernabeu ahead of the January window. The winger is not in a happy place at the moment, given the lack of game time and importance under new boss Xabi Alonso.

The winger is not seen as an automatic starter anymore at Real Madrid under Alonso, which could trigger the possibility of Rodrygo looking at a new challenge in January. With the World Cup on the horizon, there’s every possibility the Brazilian might voice his concerns over his diminished role in the team and could seek an exit.

Manchester City are very much interested in the winger, and it appears, they have seen a bid rejected by Real Madrid. The report claims the Premier League giants tabled an offer worth €80 million to sign the 24-year-old Real Madrid star, with the proposal broken down into €60 million in fixed fees and €20 million in variables.

Real Madrid do not consider the sum good enough for a player of the 24-year-old’s calibre, as they reportedly seek at least €80 million in fixed fees. Whether Manchester City returns with an improved offer remains the question, as Real Madrid may also be open to keeping Rodrygo beyond the January window.

Are Manchester City serious about Rodrygo Goes?

A few weeks earlier, this story could have been considered serious enough, given Pep Guardiola wants a new winger in his team owing to the ineffectiveness of Savinho. However, in the past few days, Antoine Semenyo has been closing in on a move to Manchester City, which may close the need for a wide attacker for the upcoming window.

While Rodrygo remains a big-name player in the market and one that would improve this Manchester City attack, the English side have made their preference with Semenyo abundantly clear. It’s a matter of days before the Ghanaian arrives at the Etihad, which would effectively end the links with other players, including the 24-year-old Real Madrid star.
