Crystal Palace eyeing Sidiki Cherif swoop

Crystal Palace will reportedly look to sign 19-year-old French attacking sensation Sidiki Cherif from Ligue 1 club Angers SCO next year.

According to a report by French outlet Le Parisien, Sidiki Cherif is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are eager to reinforce their offensive unit by signing a striker in one of the next two transfer windows. So, the 19-year-old Angers SCO centre-forward has emerged as a target for the South London outfit.

The 2024/25 FA Cup winners have expressed their interest in the Frenchman, hoping to sign him from Angers SCO next year. Cherif is also a target for a Bundesliga club. Meanwhile, the Ligue 1 outfit will demand around €25-30 million to part ways with the teenage prospect next year.

Who is Sidiki Cherif?

Sidiki Cherif has established himself as one of the most promising young attacking prospects in Ligue 1 since breaking into the first-team squad at Angers SCO. A native of Guinea, the 19-year-old spent his formative years in France, passing through the academies at AS Bayard-Saumur and Olympique Saumur before graduating from the youth division at Angers SCO.

The French attacking sensation has already made 33 appearances for Angers SCO while chipping in with four goals. Meanwhile, Cherif’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Crystal Palace will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature next year.

London calling?

Crystal Palace’s interest in Sidiki Cherif is understandable. While Oliver Glasner has two strikers in his squad, the Eagles are sweating over Jean-Philippe Mateta’s long-term future. The Crystal Palace striker has emerged as a target for several high-profile clubs, including AC Milan.

So, Crystal Palace may have to plan for life after Mateta, as the former FSV Mainz 05 striker may depart from Selhurst Park in the coming weeks. Several candidates, including Jorgen Strand Larsen, have thus emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Cherif also a viable target. Meanwhile, Angers SCO will demand around €25-30 million to part ways with the 19-year-old Frenchman.

However, Crystal Palace will not be alone in the race to sign Cherif, as a Bundesliga club will attempt to sign him from the Ligue 1 club in the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the French attacking sensation.
