Stade Rennais are reportedly all set to rival Girona in their pursuit of Manchester City attacking sensation Claudio Echeverri.
According to a report from Ouest-France, Stade Rennais have entered the race for the signature of Claudio Echeverri, as they look to add more creativity in the upcoming transfer window. The Ligue 1 top-four hopefuls are set to face stiff competition from Girona, who are currently considered front-runners to sign the Argentine youth international.
Following Echeverri’s sensational rise at River Plate, Manchester City secured his services for around €20 million back in 2024. He stayed back at the Argentine club on loan before moving to Manchester at the start of 2025.
Since he was unlikely to get much game time under Pep Guardiola, they ended up sending him out on loan to Bayer Leverkusen last summer. However, the move to the German club has not worked out in his favour, as he has been involved in 11 matches, starting just three of those fixtures and racking up less than 300 minutes of first-team action.
Claudio Echeverri seems set for another loan move
Manchester City are set to terminate Echeverri’s loan move, but he is unlikely to stay at the Premier League club. They would like to send him out on loan again, but this time to a club that can guarantee regular game time for the Argentine attacking midfielder.
Girona, who are also owned by the City Group, have emerged as a potential destination. They are believed to be front-runners for his signature, given the connection between the two clubs. With the Catalan club battling hard to survive in the top flight, bringing in a quality player like Claudio Echeverri can certainly help their cause.
Stade Rennais to rival Girona
Girona are not the only club keen on Claudio Echeverri’s signature, as Stade Rennais have also entered the race. The Ligue 1 top-four hopefuls, who are sixth heading into the Christmas break, seek more creativity in the centre of the park.
Rennes are believed to be massive admirers of Echeverri, who can also feature on the flanks. The Ligue 1 club are very keen on securing his services on loan. While Manchester City are ready to sanction any temporary departure, beating Griona to his signature won’t be that easy.
