Aston Villa, West Ham United in transfer tussle to sign Joey Veerman

Aston Villa and West Ham United are reportedly among the prospective suitors interested in signing 27-year-old Dutch midfielder Joey Veerman from PSV Eindhoven.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Aston Villa and West Ham United are interested in signing Joey Veerman. The Premier League clubs are eager to reinforce their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder next year. So, the 27-year-old PSV Eindhoven mainstay has emerged as a target for them.

Aston Villa and West Ham have already held talks to sign the Dutchman, who wants to move to the Premier League when he leaves PSV Eindhoven. Veerman is also open to joining a Bundesliga club, with Borussia Dortmund vying for his signature. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid, Brentford, Sunderland, and Fenerbahce are also keen on signing him, with the Turkish giants also opening talks for a move.

How has Joey Veerman fared at PSV Eindhoven?

Joey Veerman has established himself as one of the best midfielders in his homeland since joining PSV Eindhoven from Heerenveen in January 2022. A native of Purmerend, the 27-year-old spent his formative years in the Netherlands, representing RKAV Volendam and FC Volendam before graduating from the latter’s academy. However, he rose to prominence during his two-and-a-half-year stint with Heerenveen.

The Dutch midfielder has been a pivotal figure for PSV Eindhoven in the last three years, making over 150 appearances thus far while chipping in with 31 goals and 59 assists. Meanwhile, Veerman’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Aston Villa and West Ham United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature, with the two clubs holding talks for a move.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Aston Villa’s interest in Joey Veerman may be surprising, but the Villans are keen on reinforcing their midfield unit next year. With John McGinn on the wrong side of 30 and Ross Barkley struggling with fitness issues, Aston Villa can do with a midfielder who can help them compete on four fronts. Additionally, Harvey Elliott will likely return to Liverpool next year. So, Veerman is a viable target for Aston Villa.

As for West Ham, the Hammers have had their sights set on Veerman for a long time. The continued interest is understandable, as James Ward-Prowse has no future at the London Stadium. Additionally, Guido Rodriguez will likely leave West Ham next year, compelling the East London outfit to identify the 27-year-old Dutchman as a target.

Interestingly for Aston Villa and West Ham, Veerman wants to move to the Premier League when he leaves PSV Eindhoven. The 27-year-old Dutch midfielder is also open to joining a Bundesliga club, with Borussia Dortmund vying for his signature. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid, Brentford, Sunderland, and Fenerbahce are also keen on signing him, with the Turkish giants also opening talks for a move.
