Newcastle United will reportedly compete with AS Roma in the race to sign 17-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation Danilo from Gremio.
According to a report by Brazilian outlet Portal Do Gremisto, Danilo is the subject of interest from Newcastle United. The Magpies are constantly keen on reinforcing their setup by signing highly rated prodigies. So, the 17-year-old Gremio midfield sensation has emerged as a target for the Tyneside outfit.
However, the 2024/25 EFL Cup winners face stiff competition from AS Monaco in the battle for the South American midfield prospect’s signature. Meanwhile, the youngster’s contract with Gremio contains a release clause worth €40 million, and he may move to Europe soon amid his links with Newcastle United and AS Monaco.
Who is Danilo?
Danilo is the latest promising prodigy to rise in prominence in his homeland. The youngster has spent his formative years thus far in Brazil, passing through the youth division at Gremio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense. The 17-year-old currently represents the club’s under-17 side.
The teenage prospect has made considerable progress in age-group football in his homeland, and he has “impressed with his technical development and physical growth” in his nascent years. So, it is hardly surprising that European scouts have set their sights on the Brazilian midfield prodigy, with Newcastle United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Newcastle United’s interest in Danilo is understandable. The Magpies have focused on a youth-driven project since the Public Investment Fund took over the club from Mike Ashley a few years ago. Several promising prodigies have arrived at St. James’ Park since then, and recent reports have linked them with many young prospects.
Widespread reports have also suggested that Newcastle United will focus on Brazil to secure promising prodigies in the coming years. Several candidates have thus emerged on the Tyneside outfit’s wishlist, with Danilo also a viable target. However, they are not alone in the race to sign the South American wonderkid.
