Manchester United are reportedly ahead in the race for Mamadou Sangare, with Chelsea and West Ham United also interested in the RC Lens star.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Manchester United have leapfrogged Chelsea and West Ham United in the race to sign Mamadou Sangare. The RC Lens star is fast emerging as a cost-effective midfield target for those Premier League sides ahead of the January transfer window, as the French side are reluctant to sell him.
RC Lens have surprised a few onlookers with their performances this season, as they sit on top of the Ligue 1 standings, with a one-point lead over reigning champions PSG. There are considerable questions over their ability to sustain a concerted title challenge, especially with key midfielder Mamadou Sangare leaving to join Senegal for the AFCON.
Lens are only hoping Sangare will be back in action as soon as he finishes with his international commitments, given the increasing transfer speculation ahead of January. The midfielder, who joined Lens in an €8 million deal back in the summer, has fast emerged as one of their most important performers this season.
Mamadou Sangare has a host of teams chasing for his signature, including Manchester United, Chelsea, and West Ham United. The report states the Red Devils are ahead in the race to sign the youngster, as they view him as a cost-effective signing ahead of the January transfer window.
RC Lens are not eager to lose Sangare in January and harm their title chances. Realistically, not many expect the Ligue 1 leaders to get over the line ahead of PSG, although losing him will hurt their chances of finishing in the Champions League places.
Manchester United leading the Mamadou Sangare chase?
Chelsea and West Ham United are in the market for midfield reinforcements, with the latter ready to replace James Ward-Prowse, while the former are looking for additional cover due to Rome Lavia’s persistent injury issues. However, it is Manchester United who are reportedly ahead, as the Red Devils are not expected to sign one of their key targets like Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton or Carlos Baleba in January.
Ruben Neves is another player being linked with a move, as Manchester United are intent on signing a new midfielder in January. However, Mamadou Sangare is seen as someone who could help them in the present and future, as the Ligue 1 star has long-term potential to grow with any team.
