Manchester City will compete with Liverpool and Real Madrid in the race to sign 25-year-old Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi next year.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Marc Guehi is the subject of interest from Manchester City. Liverpool and Real Madrid are also keen on signing the Crystal Palace captain, who will become a free agent next summer. However, the Citizens have identified the English international as their priority centre-back target.
What is Marc Guehi’s situation?
Marc Guehi is close to embarking on a new adventure after entering the final 12 months of his Crystal Palace contract. The 25-year-old has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since arriving at Selhurst Park from Chelsea in July 2021, making significant progress in the last four years while becoming the club captain.
The English international has made over 150 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with ten goals and eight assists. However, Guehi’s contract situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs. Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are among the prospective suitors vying for the FA Cup winner’s signature.
A man in demand
Manchester City will dip into the market for a centre-back next summer, as John Stones and Nathan Ake face an uncertain future at the Etihad. So, Pep Guardiola is pushing for a defensive overhaul. Several candidates have thus emerged on Manchester City’s wishlist, with Guehi also a viable target.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s continued interest in Marc Guehi makes sense. Giovanni Leoni has picked up a long-term knee injury and will not be fit enough to start the 2026/27 season. Additionally, Ibrahima Konate’s long-term future remains uncertain, despite Real Madrid’s decision not to pursue him next summer. Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk is on the wrong side of 30. So, Guehi is a viable target for Liverpool.
As for Real Madrid, Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are on the wrong side of 30. Additionally, Eder Militao has struggled with fitness issues since the 2023/24 season. So, Real Madrid must dip into the market for a centre-back next year, with Guehi an option worth considering.
While Liverpool and Real Madrid are also keen on signing Guehi, Manchester City will prioritise securing his services next year. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 25-year-old English international.
