Manchester City are interested in signing the Crystal Palace defender, Marc Guehi.
A report from The Times states they will compete with Liverpool for the 25-year-old Crystal Palace defender. The player was very close to joining Liverpool during the summer transfer window, but the move did not work out. He will be out of contract in the summer of 2026, and multiple clubs are monitoring his situation.
Manchester City need more quality and depth in the defensive unit and signing the 25-year-old would be ideal. He would be an upgrade on players like John Stones and Nathan Aké. Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer would be a masterstroke from Pep Guardiola and his team. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
Reds keen on Guehi
Liverpool are keen on the player as well, and they need him to replace Ibrahima Konaté. The French international will be out of contract, so Liverpool must find a quality replacement for him. The 25-year-old has shown his quality in the Premier League and he helped Crystal Palace win the FA Cup and the Community Shield recently. He is the captain of the club and he has proved himself with the England national team as well. There is no doubt that he is good enough to play for the biggest clubs in the world, and he could transform Liverpool or Manchester City.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester City or Liverpool decide to come forward with a nominal offer to sign the player in January. They could wait until the summer to sign him for free as well. However, there is likely to be a lot of competition for his signature, and it would make sense for the clubs to make their move in January and secure his signature. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
Guéhi will want to join a big club where he will be able to fight for major trophies. Both clubs could be attractive destinations for him.
