Atletico Madrid are ready to make a big effort to bring Marc Cucurella back to Spain, but there are big challenges ahead in signing the Chelsea wide man.
According to Fichajes, Diego Simeone reportedly wants Marc Cucurella at Atletico Madrid at all costs. The Roji Blancos are determined to make a big effort to sign the Chelsea wide player, but there are big challenges ahead to lure one of the main men in Enzo Maresca’s system.
Atletico Madrid are a club capable of attracting big talents from everywhere and pays a good enough salary. A couple of summers ago, they surprised a few when they signed Julian Alvarez from Manchester City in a massive deal, and now they are targeting another established Premier League star.
The player in focus is Marc Cucurella, with the Chelsea wide player now being viewed as a top target for Diego Simeone. Adding to his defensive nous and tactical intelligence in that Chelsea system, the Atletico Madrid boss wants to bring the Spaniard in at all costs.
Atletico Madrid were indeed interested in Cucurella recently, as the club are now ready to make a big effort in their efforts to land the Chelsea wide player. It appears the Spanish giants view him as a perfect addition to their plans for the present and future, but there are obvious challenges ahead to lure the left-back from his current surroundings.
Given that Chelsea had paid over £60 million to sign him from Brighton back in 2022, and the fact that Cucurella is now an established key star in the team, it will take much more than that sum to lure him away. While Atletico Madrid are in a position to pay a good enough salary, splashing big money on a left-back may not be a priority for the Spanish giants.
Will Chelsea sell Marc Cucurella?
In short, no, as Chelsea have no plans to part ways with Cucurella at the moment or in the future. Enzo Maresca views him as a key star in his plans, and in reality, Chelsea does not have a backup plan to the Spaniard. Given his top-notch and mature performances for the Blues, there were talks of a new deal back in the summer, which could be signed before the season ends.
Chelsea may have invested in a lot of players since the takeover from their new owners three years ago, and they consider Cucurella as one of the cornerstones of their project. Hence, if Atletico Madrid or someone else comes in, the Blues are unlikely to even entertain the prospect of parting ways with Cucurella anytime soon.
