Manchester City ahead of Manchester United in race to sign Dell

Manchester City and Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing 17-year-old Brazilian striker Dell from EC Bahia.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Manchester City and Manchester United are keen on signing Dell. The two Premier League bigwigs are keen on reinforcing their offensive units by signing a young striker who can be a long-term solution in the final third. So, the 17-year-old EC Bahia wonderkid has emerged as a target for them.

However, the Red Devils have fallen behind their neighbours in the race to sign the South American attacking sensation. With Bahia being part of the City Football Group, Manchester City and the consortium’s hierarchy are discussing the youngster’s future, and they hold all the aces in the battle for his signature.

Who is Dell?

Dell has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland after his exploits at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup. A native of Estancia, the teenage attacking prodigy has spent his formative years thus far in Brazil, passing through the academy at Esporte Clube Bahia before breaking into the first-team squad.

The 17-year-old has already made two appearances for Bahia’s first team, accumulating 39 minutes of game time. However, the Brazilian wonderkid has made his name by making his mark during the Under-17 World Cup, drawing comparisons to Erling Haaland. Meanwhile, his exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Manchester United and Manchester City among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s interest in Dell is understandable. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a young striker amid uncertainties surrounding Joshua Zirkzee’s long-term future. With Benjamin Sesko being the first-choice centre-forward, signing a teenager is the ideal solution for Manchester United.

As for Manchester City, Omar Marmoush has struggled in his first full season at the Etihad, and he has become a backup player for Pep Guardiola. With Erling Haaland the only other striker in Manchester City’s first-team squad, pursuing a teenage prospect compared to him makes sense.

While Manchester United recently scouted Dell, they have fallen behind Manchester City in the battle for his signature, as they share the same parent company as EC Bahia. Manchester City and the City Football Group’s hierarchy have discussed the 17-year-old Brazilian striker’s progress, and a move to the Etihad may be on the cards.
