Manchester United will reportedly look to sign 21-year-old English international Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace in a deal worth €100 million next summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Adam Wharton is the subject of interest of Manchester United. Arsenal and Manchester City are also keen on signing the Crystal Palace defender next year. However, the Red Devils want to win the race to sign the English midfield prospect by submitting a bid worth €100 million.
How has Adam Wharton risen in prominence?
Adam Wharton has become a household name since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January 2024. The 21-year-old did not take long to find his feet at the South London club, and his exploits have helped him break into his national side. Additionally, the English international has played his part in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup and FA Community Shield wins.
The Englishman has made over 50 appearances thus far for Crystal Palace while chipping in with eight assists. Meanwhile, Wharton’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several European bigwigs. Premier League giants, in particular, are keen on signing the English international, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Will Wharton move across the Premier League?
Arsenal may dip into the market again next summer despite signing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi earlier this year. While that may appear surprising, the former is on the wrong side of 30. So, Arsenal can do with another top-class midfielder, with Wharton emerging as a viable target.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Adam Wharton makes sense. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a holding midfielder heading into next summer’s transfer window due to Casemiro’s advancing age. Additionally, Manuel Ugarte has failed to make his mark since joining Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain. So, Wharton is an option worth considering.
As for Manchester City, the Citizens are combing the market for a holding midfielder amid Rodri’s continued fitness struggles. So, Wharton has emerged as a viable target, as he has the qualities to take over from Rodri as a first-choice start in the middle of the park for Manchester City. However, Manchester United may be ahead of the rest in the race to sign the Englishman.
The Red Devils are ready to pay €100 million to sign Wharton, and that may leave them in pole position to secure his services. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 21-year-old English international.
