Liverpool have scouted Joel Ordonez, face Chelsea battle

Liverpool have reportedly scouted Joel Ordonez ahead of a future approach, but faces Chelsea battle for the Ecuadorian defender.

According to Bola VIP, Liverpool are watching Joel Odonez with regularity ahead of the January window, as they continue to search for a new defender. Chelsea are also in the mix, having done their own scouting missions on the Ecuadorian defender, as Club Brugge could anticipate offers in the winter window.

Joel Ordonez is a player increasingly linked with some of the top clubs, as Club Brugge have a big decision to make ahead of January. Back in the summer, the Belgian side placed a price point that not many interested parties were willing to match, although that could change ahead of January.

Club Brugge wants €40 million or more to sell the defender, and currently, there are a few teams that might be open to the idea. There are a few teams like Aston Villa and Newcastle United interested, but there’s sufficient interest from some of the big Premier League sides.

Liverpool have reportedly kept watch on the highly-rated South American defender, with the Reds ready to pay a big fee to test Club Brugge’s resolve. The Merseysiders had wanted a new defender in the mix, but the injury to summer arrival Giovanni Leoni and their failure to land Marc Guehi have left them short in the central areas.

Hence, they could consider making the move for Ordonez ahead of January, but they are not alone in the race. Chelsea had watched the Ecuadorian in action, and given there’s a mild contingent at the club from the said country, the Club Brugge star could be tempted because of the familiarity in the Blues camp.

Where is Joel Ordonez’s next destination?

Ordonez is already showing plenty of signs of being ready for the big leagues, and a move to one of the top Premier League sides would suit his career moving forward. Should one of Liverpool or Chelsea end up paying the €40 million or more price point needed to convince Club Brugge, the Ecuadorian could be on his way.

It remains to be seen where he prefers to join, between Chelsea and Liverpool, as playing regular football will be key to his decision. Either of those teams could look at him as an option for the present and future, as Chelsea and Liverpool could make their case in the race depending on the roles they offer to the highly-rated South American defender.
