Manchester United unlikely to sign Ivan Toney in January

Manchester United will unlikely sign 29-year-old English international Ivan Toney from Al-Ahli in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Ivan Toney is not the subject of interest from Manchester United. While the Red Devils are open to exploring options in the market to sign a striker heading into the winter transfer window, Benjamin Sesko’s knee injury has exacerbated the situation.

However, Manchester United will not engage in knee-jerk reactions, even though widespread reports have linked them with several strikers, including Serhou Guirassy. As for the possible interest in Toney, Dean Jones has revealed that a move for the Englishman “not going to happen” in the winter transfer window.

How has Ivan Toney fared in Saudi Pro League?

Ivan Toney has been one of the world’s most prolific strikers since joining Al-Ahli from Brentford last year. The 29-year-old surprised many with his decision to move to the Saudi Pro League, having been among the best strikers in the Premier League for several years. However, he immediately became a pivotal figure for the Middle Eastern outfit while pocketing £400,000 per week in wages.

Toney has been hot off the blocks in the 2025/26 season, amassing 12 goals and two assists in 18 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, the English striker’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Recent reports have suggested that Manchester United will be among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the winter transfer window.

Will Toney return to the Premier League soon?

Ivan Toney was on Manchester United’s radar before he joined Al-Ahli last year. They can do with a striker heading into the winter transfer window, as Benjamin Sesko has sustained a knee injury that will leave the summer arrival in the treatment room for the foreseeable future. Additionally, Joshua Zirkzee is keen on embarking on a new adventure in January after struggling for game time thus far in the 2025/26 season.

Several candidates have thus emerged on Manchester United’s radar, with widespread reports linking them with Serhou Guirassy, Dusan Vlahovic, and Jean-Philippe Mateta. However, Dean Jones has revealed that the struggling Premier League giants “don’t think they see many good options in the market to go and sign a new striker” in the winter transfer window.

As for a possible move for Toney, a potential deal for the 29-year-old Englishman “is not going to happen” in the coming weeks. However, several other Premier League clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, remain keen on signing Toney from Al-Ahli in the winter transfer window.
