Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old English international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, Manchester City have identified Elliot Anderson as a top target for the summer transfer window. The English midfielder is likely to cost around £80-£100 million and the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in him as well.
Anderson has done quite well since joining Nottingham Forest, and he is certainly one of the brightest young prospects in the Premier League right now. It is hardly a surprise that top teams are looking to secure his signature.
The £80-100 million asking price is quite substantial, and it will be interesting to see if Manchester City are willing to pay up. The Citizens are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and there is no doubt that they have the finances to make the move happen.
Manchester City have struggled when Rodri has been injured, and they need a quality defensive midfielder as cover. Anderson could be ideal for them. It remains to be seen whether they follow up on their interest with an official proposal at the end of the season.
Liverpool are interested in the player as well, and they need a quality defensive midfielder like him. Ryan Gravenberch has done reasonably well in that role, but the Netherlands international is more suited to the role of a central midfielder instead.
Adding Anderson to their ranks will help them improve further. It will allow Liverpool to tighten up defensively and their creative players will be able to operate with more freedom. Similarly, Manchester United need a quality defensive midfielder as well. Casemiro is in the twilight stages of his career and Manuel Ugarte has simply failed to live up to the expectations.
Where will Anderson end up?
Elliot Anderson has the quality to improve all three clubs, and he will certainly be attracted to the idea of joining them. The 23-year-old will want to compete at the highest level and fight for league titles and the UEFA Champions League.
Joining elite clubs will help him fulfil his ambitions. It will be interesting to see which of the three clubs can get the deal done at the end of the season. Even though the asking price is quite high, the 23-year-old Englishman could justify the investment in future.
Manchester City and Liverpool have been disappointing this season. They have not been able to perform at the desired level. If they want to compete with Arsenal and fight for major trophies, they will need to improve in the coming months. The English international could certainly make a big difference for them.
