Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have stepped up their pursuit of Tottenham and Manchester City target Lautaro Rivero.
According to a report from Fichajes, Aston Villa are keen on acquiring the services of River Plate defensive sensation Lautaro Rivero. They have stepped up their efforts to secure the services of the Argentine sensation as they look to beat Tottenham and Manchester City to his signature.
Rivero has been a part of the River Plate setup since his childhood days. He got promoted to their first team in the summer of 2024, following which he had a loan spell at Central Cordoba. Thanks to his impressive loan stint, the 22-year-old has managed to secure an important role at his parent club.
So far, he has featured in 16 matches for River Plate’s first team. His impressive rise has helped him break into the Argentine national team, and multiple top clubs in Europe have taken note of his performances.
While his contract at the Argentine club runs until the end of 2028, they will struggle to keep hold of him for long, given the number of clubs that are after his signature. Premier League giants have their eyes set on the 22-year-old, and they are ready to raid River Plate.
Rivero looks set for a move to the Premier League
Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Manchester City have all been keeping tabs on the Argentine international. Villa have been scouting him for months, and they believe he is a perfect fit for Unai Emery’s system. The Spanish manager seeks more quality at the back, and they are confident that he can make an immediate impact.
More importantly, he could prove to be a great investment for the long run. Villa have already stepped up their pursuit as they look to beat Tottenham and City to his signature. While the 22-year-old is protected by a massive €100 million release clause, Villa are set to test the waters with an initial offer worth €20 million.
Emiliano Martinez has already held talks with Rivero about a potential move to Villa Park, and the club feel the relationship between the duo could help their cause. City and Spurs have recently joined the race for his services.
The duo are looking to add more quality and depth to their backline. The North London club have focused on signing young players for the long run in recent windows, and Rivero is a perfect fit for their project. Meanwhile, City are constantly looking for players with massive potential, and they are very keen on having the Argentine international in their ranks.
