Everton mulling over winter move for James Ward-Prowse move

Everton may look to sign 31-year-old out-of-favour English midfielder James Ward-Prowse from West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, James Ward-Prowse is the subject of interest from Everton. The Toffees are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 31-year-old West Ham United outcast has emerged as a target for the Merseyside club.

Recent reports have revealed that the Englishman has no future at West Ham United, as Nuno Espirito Santo has no plans for him, having also sidelined him during a loan spell at Nottingham Forest. The Portuguese tactician has not used Ward-Prowse since taking over from Graham Potter at West Ham, and the former Southampton captain will barely feature for the East London outfit in the coming weeks.

James Ward-Prowse and his West Ham woes

James Ward-Prowse has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining West Ham United from Southampton in a deal worth £30 million in August 2023. The 28-year-old arrived at the London Stadium with hype surrounding him after spending two decades with the Saints and being a talismanic figure for the first team. However, the player has struggled to stamp his authority during his spell with the East London outfit.

The English midfielder has managed only 506 minutes of game time in six appearances thus far for West Ham in the 2025/26 season. So, it is clear that Ward-Prowse has no future at the East London club after Nuno Espirito Santo replaced Graham Potter. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Everton among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.

David Moyes reunion on the cards?

Everton’s interest in James Ward-Prowse is understandable. The Toffees are scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window, with David Moyes demanding more options in the middle of the park. While Everton signed Merlin Rohl this past summer, they are worried about Idrissa Gueye’s long-term future.

The Senegalese midfielder is in the twilight of his career and will embark on a campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations with his nation in a few weeks. So, Everton should dip into the market for a midfielder, and several candidates, including Ismael Saibari, have emerged on the Merseyside club’s wishlist.

Meanwhile, Ward-Prowse is not the only West Ham player Moyes has been keen on reuniting with in the last 12 months, as the Toffees have also shown interest in Tomas Soucek. However, it will be interesting to see if the 28-year-old English midfielder gets the opportunity to resurrect his career by joining Everton in the coming weeks.
