Napoli eyeing January loan move for Federico Chiesa

Serie A champions Napoli will reportedly look to sign 51-cap Italian international Federico Chiesa on loan from Liverpool in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Italian outlet Sport Mediaset, Federico Chiesa is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Serie A champions are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the winter transfer window. So, the 28-year-old Liverpool winger has emerged as a target for the Partenopei.

The 2024/25 Serie A winners are keen on signing the Genova native on loan from Liverpool in the winter transfer window, even though Aurelio De Laurentiis is ready to hand Antonio Conte a kitty of around €50 million to bolster the first-team squad. The report suggests securing Chiesa’s services will allow Conte to adopt different formations as the 2025/26 season progresses.

Federico Chiesa and his Liverpool career so far

Federico Chiesa has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Liverpool from Juventus in August 2024. While the 28-year-old winger has shown flashes of brilliance in the final third, he has been a bit-part player for the Merseyside outfit in the last 18 months, with game time coming at a premium for him.

While Chiesa may have felt he could have turned things around at Anfield after scoring the match-winning goal against Bournemouth in Gameweek 1 of the 2025/26 season, he has only 344 minutes of game time in 12 appearances thus far, chipping in with two goals and three assists. However, the Italian international remains a hot property in the market, with Napoli among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.

Serie A return on the horizon?

Federico Chiesa has been on Napoli’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as Antonio Conte wants more firepower in the final third. While the Italian tactician faces an uncertain future at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, the latest report has revealed that Aurelio De Laurentiis is ready to back him in the winter transfer window.

The Napoli owner has allocated €50 million to be the winter transfer window budget. However, the Serie A champions want to sign Chiesa on loan from Liverpool in January, with the move depending on the Merseyside club’s stance on the player’s future. Meanwhile, the player may be eager to secure regular game time to return to his national squad heading into the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, recent reports have claimed that Liverpool will not sanction Chiesa’s departure in the winter transfer window. So, it will be interesting to see if Napoli can convince the Premier League champions to agree to a loan deal for the 28-year-old Italian international.
