Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 19-year-old Nigerian winger Sani Suleiman from AS Trencin after scouting him at the Under-20 FIFA World Cup this month.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Sani Suleiman is the subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a young winger who can be a long-term solution in the final third. So, the 19-year-old AS Trencin wonderkid has emerged as a target for the North London club.
Tottenham dispatched scouts to watch the African attacking sensation at the ongoing FIFA Under-20 World Cup. The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners have followed that up by submitting an enquiry over a possible move. However, the Premier League club will face stiff competition from Rangers for Suleiman’s signature.
Who is Sani Suleiman?
Sani Suleiman is the latest wonderkid to rise in prominence in his homeland. Nigeria has been a treasure trove for highly-rated prodigies who have made their names in Europe. Suleiman spent most of his formative years thus far in Nigeria before joining AS Trencin last year. Since then, the 19-year-old has seen his stock soar, with CIES recently ranking him as the most complete Under-21 winger based on seven key performance metrics.
The Nigerian attacking sensation has made 30 appearances thus far for AS Trencin while chipping in with four goals and two assists. Suleiman recently attracted interest at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, where Nigeria reached the round of 16 before losing to Argentina. Tottenham Hotspur and Rangers are among the clubs that dispatched their scouts, with the former making initial enquiries.
London calling?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Sani Suleiman is understandable. The Lilywhites have adopted a youth-driven approach to squad building in the last few years, with Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr, and Archie Gray, among others, bolstering the squad in recent seasons. Meanwhile, Kota Takai, who has become a first-team player for the North London club, arrived this past summer.
Meanwhile, recent reports have linked Tottenham with highly-rated prodigies like Rayan Vitor Simplicio Rocha. So, it is hardly surprising that Suleiman has emerged as a target for Tottenham, with the North London outfit dispatching scouts to watch him at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners have followed that up by submitting an enquiry over a possible move. However, Tottenham will face stiff competition from Rangers and other English clubs for the 19-year-old Nigerian winger, and it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the AS Trencin wonderkid.
