Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are reportedly holding talks with their former skipper, Harry Maguire, over a new contract.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Harry Maguire could end up extending his stay at Old Trafford beyond this season. The England international’s camp has held talks with Manchester United in recent days, and more discussions are expected to follow as both parties negotiate the terms of a potential new deal.
Harry Maguire’s time at Old Trafford
Maguire made a name for himself while playing for Leicester City. On the back of his consistent performances, the Red Devils forked out a fortune to add him to their squad in the summer of 2019. The 32-year-old has only gone from strength to strength since.
At one point, not only was he one of their mainstays, but the English international was even the captain of the team. However, things have not been that great for Maguire in recent seasons, and he is no longer a guaranteed starter in the team.
Maguire has revived his Manchester United career under Ruben Amorim. While the Englishman is not guaranteed to start, he is an important member of his squad. However, his future has been a big talking point, with his contract running out at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford. With him turning 33 next year, reports suggest that Manchester United are still deliberating whether to offer him a new deal. Even if they decide to extend his stay, the England international would have to accept a significant pay cut, as the club are unlikely to match his current wages.
Macnhester United initiate renewal talks with Maguire
The Red Devils seem to have made a decision with regard to Maguire’s future. The struggling Premier League bigwigs have decided to extend his stay at the club as they are happy with his contribution on the pitch and his leadership skills behind the scenes. Manchester United are thus in talks with the English international over a new deal.
The club chiefs have held face-to-face talks with the 32-year-old Englishman’s camp, and more discussions are expected to follow in the coming days. It will be interesting to see if both parties can reach a common ground with regard to his wages.
