Newcastle United scouting Alexander Sorloth

Newcastle United have scouted Alexander Sorloth in a recent game as they could ponder making a move for the Atletico Madrid striker.

According to Marca, Alexander Sorloth is a target for Newcastle United in future windows after scouting the striker in a recent game. Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone places huge importance on the Norwegian, although a good enough offer could tempt the Spanish giants into selling the giant striker.

Atletico Madrid signed Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal in a €32 million deal plus an additional €10 million in add-ons during the summer of 2024. The striker had a massive season before, scoring 23 La Liga goals, and replicated that in his first campaign at the Metropolitano by notching 20 league strikes.

Diego Simeone places massive importance on the Norwegian hitman and would like to continue keeping him in the side. This term, Sorloth has started only three of his seven La Liga games and scored twice so far, but there will be a bigger role as the season progresses.

Atletico Madrid are aware of the interest from the Premier League, as Newcastle United observers were present to watch him in a recent game. The Magpies scouted Sorloth during Atletico Madrid’s stellar win over Real Madrid, with the Norwegian on the scoresheet.

Newcastle United were interested in Sorloth back in the summer as they scoured the market for an Alexander Isak replacement. The physical profile of the Norwegian makes him an ideal fit for any Premier League side, with Newcastle United now reportedly keen to explore a future move after a successful scouting mission on the Atletico Madrid star.

Will Newcastle United sign Alexander Sorloth?

Had the idea to sign Sorloth as an Isak replacement in the summer materialised, he might have been playing at St James’ Park. However, after the business that Newcastle United conducted in the latter stages of the window, the idea of signing the Norwegian would not make sense. The Magpies signed Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart as Isak’s direct replacement.

The Magpies then signed Yoane Wissa on deadline day, which does fulfil their striker requirements, as signing another experienced star may not make sense. Sorloth, the former Premier League striker who played for Crystal Palace among his eleven clubs so far in a well-traveled career, could still make the move to the English top flight next summer for the right money, but that may not be to St James Park.
