Arsenal hold contract talks with Martin Odegaard

Arsenal will reportedly aim to tie 26-year-old Norwegian international to a new contract after holding talks with his entourage.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Arsenal’s drive to secure an agreement with each pivotal figure has seen them turn their attention towards three more players. Martin Odegaard, David Raya, and Declan Rice will receive new contracts from the North London club, and their representatives have been in touch with the Gunners to discuss fresh terms.

Martin Odegaard and his Arsenal career so far

Martin Odegaard has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the Premier League since joining Arsenal from Real Madrid in a deal worth around £30 million in August 2021. The Drammen native rose in prominence as a teenage sensation Stromsgodset IF before joining Real Madrid as a 16-year-old wonderkid.

However, the move did not pan out as well as Odegaard would have liked, even though he enjoyed successful loan stints away from the Santiago Bernabeu. Arsenal finally rescued the 26-year-old from Real Madrid in January 2021 before completing a permanent move in the subsequent summer transfer window.

The 67-cap Norwegian international has made over 200 appearances thus far for Arsenal while chipping in with 41 goals and 40 assists. Additionally, Odegaard has served the North London outfit as the club captain in the last few years after taking over from Alexandre Lacazette. He is now in line to receive a new contract from the Premier League bigwigs.

What next?

While recent reports have linked Arsenal with many playmakers, including Nico Paz, Martin Odegaard remains an undisputed pivotal figure for the North London club despite his fitness issues this season. The Gunners are now ready to tie the club captain to a new contract, even though his current deal runs until June 2028.

The Premier League bigwigs are on a contract renewal drive, with William Saliba the latest player to commit his future to the club. Bukayo Saka will be the next player to sign a new deal with Arsenal, with the English international keen on remaining at the Emirates for the long haul. The talks have also resumed with Odegaard.

Arsenal and Odegaard’s representatives have been in touch to discuss a new contract. With the 26-year-old playmaker happy at the North London club, he will likely commit his long-term future by signing a long-term deal. It will be interesting to see how talks between Arsenal and the 67-cap Norwegian international.
