Thomas Frank’s Tottenham are reportedly confident about agreeing a new deal with their midfield mainstay Rodrigo Bentancur.
According to a report from The Athletic, Rodrigo Bentancur could soon commit his long-term future to Tottenham with a new deal. The North London club are confident about agreeing fresh terms with the South American midfielder.
Rodrigo Bentancur’s time at Tottenham
Bentancur joined Tottenham Hotspur at the start of 2022 after making a name for himself at Juventus. Tottenham forked out €19 million to secure his services (with €4 million as add-ons). The 28-year-old has been a key figure in their team over the years.
Last season, he played a massive part in their Europa League triumph, as they ended their 17-year-long wait for a major trophy. With Thomas Frank taking charge of the summer, there were doubts about Bentancur’s future with his contract running out in 2026.
However, the 28-year-old has managed to impress the new boss and has been one of the first names on the team sheet under him. The Uruguayan international has featured in nine matches so far, starting eight of his team’s ten outings.
Spurs are pushing for a new deal for Bentancur
Since Rodrigo Bentancur is an integral part of Thomas Frank’s plans, Tottenham Hotspur are now working hard to secure his long-term future. With his contract running out, the board has started making moves to tie him down to a deal with improved terms.
The North London club are confident of agreeing a new deal with the 28-year-old. Given Spurs’ optimism, Bentancur could be the next big star to commit his future, following Cristian Romero, who penned a new four-year deal back in August.
The potential contract would not only secure his future but also reward him for his performances over the years. At 28, Bentancur is entering his prime, and tying him down before the winter window would be a massive boost for Spurs, as it would keep potential suitors at bay and prevent them from exploring a pre-contract agreement. The player certainly seems interested in extending his stay at Hostpur Way.
