Barcelona will reportedly delay talks with Manchester United over a permanent deal for Marcus Rashford until next summer.
According to a report from Sky Sports, Barcelona are quite pleased with Marcus Rashford’s progress at the club, but they are unlikely to hold talks with Manchester United regarding a permanent deal anytime soon. They won’t rush into making a decision and will wait until next summer.
Rashford came up the ranks at Manchester United and was a prominent figure at the club. However, recent seasons did not go according to plan for him. The Englishman had a rift with new manager Ruben Amorim, and his relationship with the club also deteriorated.
As a result, he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. While he was back at Old Trafford in the summer, the English international had no future at the club. The Red Devils were keen on offloading him, and the player was also looking to secure a move away.
Eventually, Barcelona secured his services on loan with a buy option. The English forward has had an impressive start to life in Spain. He has four goal contributions in his six outings so far. Apart from his sensational work on the pitch, the club are quite pleased with his behaviour and how he has conducted himself in the initial weeks.
Barcelona will play the waiting game
While they are pleased with his progress, Barcelona are unlikely to discuss a permanent move with Manchester United until next summer. It is still way too early for them to hold talks about a permanent switch, even though both clubs do align with regard to the valuation of the player.
The loan agreement has a buy option worth €30 million, and the reigning La Liga champions won’t mind meeting those demands if they eventually decide to sign him on a permanent basis. A permanent deal will depend on a lot of factors.
While his performances will surely play a big part, the club’s financial situation and his massive wages will also have a big say. The Catalan giants are currently covering his entire wages, making him one of the highest paid players in Spain, and it will be interesting to see if they can afford it in the long run.
If Barcelona decide against handing Robert Lewandowski a new deal, the chances of them signing Rashford on a permanent basis will increase, as the English international is capable enough to feature anywhere in attack.
