Joao Palhinha wants permanent move to Tottenham

Joao Palhinha is reportedly happy to seal a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur if the Lilywhites exercise the purchase option in their loan agreement with Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Give Me Sport, Joao Palhinha is happy and content at Tottenham Hotspur after the first month of the 2025/26 season. The Bayern Munich misfit is currently on loan at the North London club for the 2025/26 season, with the Premier League outfit having a purchase option worth £27 million.

Recent reports have claimed that the Lilywhites are ready to open talks with Bayern Munich to secure a permanent deal for the Lisbon native ahead of next summer. The latest update has revealed that Palhinha is happy to remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the 2025/26 season after pushing for a purchase option in the loan agreement.

Joao Palhinha and his impact at Tottenham so far

Joao Palhinha has begun reviving his fading fortunes since joining Tottenham Hotspur from Bayern Munich on a season-long loan deal this past summer. The 30-year-old has taken no time to make his mark at the North London club, becoming a mainstay in the middle of the park in Thomas Frank’s team by producing solid performances.

The Portuguese international has already amassed nearly half of the game time he managed at Bayern Munich last season, scoring once in 427 minutes of action across seven outings thus far for Tottenham. Meanwhile, Palhinha is happy to remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium beyond the 2025/26 season if the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners exercise the purchase option in their loan agreement with Bayern Munich.

Palhinha wants Tottenham stay

Tottenham Hotspur’s loan agreement with Bayern Munich gave them the option to convert Joao Palhinha’s stay to a permanent stay for £27 million. The Lilywhites are reportedly ready to open talks with Bayern Munich to keep the Lisbon native at the club beyond the 2025/26 season.

Yves Bissouma has no future and will likely secure a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite staying at the North London club until January, and Rodrigo Bentancur is in the final year of his contract. So, completing a permanent move for Palhinha will be ideal. Fortunately for Tottenham, Palhinha is happy and content at Tottenham.

The 30-year-old Portuguese international was the driving force behind the inclusion of the purchase option worth £27 million in the loan deal. With Tottenham and Palhinha ready to extend their union, it will not be surprising to see if the player’s Bayern Munich spell culminates next year.
