Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea have two alternative ways to secure the services of AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan in 2026.
Chelsea remain keen on acquiring the services of Mike Maignan. The Blues were looking to strike a deal with AC Milan in the recently concluded summer transfer window. While things didn’t go according to plan for them back then, the West London club have not given up just yet.
According to a report from Football Insider, Chelsea have two different ways to complete the signing of the French international. The Blues club could sign him in the winter transfer window or secure his services next summer for free.
While things did not go according to plan for Maignan at PSG, he revived his career at LOSC Lille before joining Milan in the summer of 2021. The 30-year-old has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, and Chelsea have been keen on his signature for some time.
The French shot-stopper’s contract at AC Milan runs out at the end of the season, and he doesn’t seem keen on extending his stay at the club. Chelsea were working on a potential deal during the summer, but the move eventually fell through.
Chelsea are ready to add Maignan to their squad
Now, the Blues have two alternative ways to complete his signing. Since Mike Maignan will only have six months left on his deal in January, the London club can agree a pre-contract deal with the 30-year-old.
However, if the Serie A giants are ready to cash in on him mid-season, Maresca’s team could look to strike a bargain deal to add him to their squad at the start of 2026. A mid-season move will depend on AC Milan’s form. If they are still in the race for the league title at the turn of the calendar, they might not let him complete an immediate move to London.
Following Robert Sanchez’s blunder against Manchester United on Saturday, one thing is certain: Maresca will look to replace him. Landing Maignan mid-season would be a huge boost, but if that proves impossible, he will likely wait until next summer to bring in the French international, who can significantly strengthen their defence.
