West Ham United are hoping to sign 27-year-old Chelsea defender Axel Disasi on loan before the summer transfer window closes.

According to an update by Jacob Steinberg, West Ham United have already made an approach to sign 27-year-old Chelsea outcast Axel Disasi on a season-long loan deal. The out-of-favour defender was at Aston Villa last season.

Chelsea paid €45 million to sign the French defender two years ago, and he does not have a future at Chelsea. So, he will look to move on this summer. Sitting on the bench at the London club is unlikely to benefit the player. With the World Cup coming up next year, Disasi will want to be a part of the national team set up for France.

Disasi needs to leave Chelsea

Axel Disasi needs to play regularly, and moving to West Ham could be ideal. The Hammers need to tighten up defensively, and they need to bring in a quality central defender before the window closes. The Frenchman could prove to be an excellent addition for them.

Disasi has previously shown his quality with Monaco, and he will look to get back to that level once again. Regular football at West Ham could be ideal for the player as well. Meanwhile, the Hammers have shown interest in other centre-backs, including Bright Arrey-Mbi.

Chelsea do not view him as a key part of their plans, and therefore, it is fair to assume that they will not stand in his way if a suitable offer is present. The Blues have been very active in the market this summer, and they will look to get rid of their fringe players now so that they can balance the books. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

The transfer window closes later today, and West Ham will be hoping to wrap up the move quickly. It has been a disappointing start to the season for the East London outfit, and they will look to bounce back strongly. They will be pushing for a place in the top half after barely surviving relegation last time.

It remains to be seen whether West Ham can bring in the right players and perform at a high level in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the French defender will be desperate to prove his quality in the Premier League. His hunger to succeed will be an added bonus for West Ham if they manage to get the deal done. Recent reports have also linked the Frenchman with AS Monaco.
