Crystal Palace will reportedly compete with Aston Villa to sign 19-year-old French defensive sensation Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse in the summer transfer window.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jaydee Canvot is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. The Eagles are eager to bolster their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 19-year-old Toulouse defensive sensation has emerged as a target for the South London club.
The Frenchman is also a target for Aston Villa, with the Villans failing to sign him from Toulouse with their opening bid. However, recent reports have claimed that they have intensified their efforts to secure Canvot’s services, with the Ligue 1 outfit demanding around €20 million to part ways with him in the summer transfer window.
Jaydee Canvot and his rise in Ligue 1
Jaydee Canvot is the latest highly rated prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. The Argenteuil native has spent his formative years thus far in France, starting his youth career at his hometown club RFC Argenteuil before moving to AS Bondy. However, the youngster has graduated from the youth division at Toulouse FC.
The 10-year-old has already turned out 22 times thus far for Toulouse while chipping in with three goals. Meanwhile, the French defensive prospect’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe. A move to the Premier League may be on the cards, with Aston Villa and Crystal Palace among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Jaydee Canvot makes sense. The Villans have been combing the market for a centre-back this summer, as Axel Disasi has returned to Chelsea after his loan deal expired. Additionally, Tyrone Mings is on the wrong side of 30, with the experienced defender struggling with fitness issues in the last few seasons. So, Canvot has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa.
As for Crystal Palace, the Eagles are in a spot of bother over Marc Guehi’s long-term future, with Steve Parish open to parting ways with the English international in the summer transfer window. Several candidates have emerged on Crystal Palace’s radar, with Canvot an option worth considering.
Meanwhile, Toulouse’s asking price has not changed, with the Ligue 1 outfit determined to recoup €20 million to part ways with the 19-year-old Frenchman. It will be interesting to see if Crystal Palace and Aston Villa fork out €20 million to sign Canvot in the final days of the summer transfer window.
