West Ham United will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Pellegrini from Serie A club AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Corriere dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Lorenzo Pellegrini is the subject of interest from West Ham United. The Hammers are keen on signing a versatile midfielder before the summer transfer window shuts down. So, the 29-year-old AS Roma veteran has emerged as a target for the East London outfit.
The Hammers are “intensifying their relationship with the player’s entourage” to find an agreement with him before approaching AS Roma. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi will demand a meagre fee of around €10 million to part ways with him and save on his salary in the summer transfer window.
Lorenzo Pellegrini and his situation
Lorenzo Pellegrini has reached a crossroads in his career after entering the final 12 months of his contract with AS Roma. Additionally, the 29-year-old is not in Gian Piero Gasperini’s plans, with the Serie A club stripping him of the club captaincy ahead of the 2025/26 season. Frederic Massara has already confirmed that the Giallorossi will look to find a solution for him in the coming days.
The Italian international has turned out over 300 times thus far for AS Roma while chipping in with 55 goals and 59 assists. However, with the Italian midfielder having no future at AS Roma, a move abroad is possible. Premier League outfits, in particular, are keen, with West Ham United among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
London calling?
West Ham United’s interest in Lorenzo Pellegrini makes sense. The Hammers have been scouring the market for a versatile midfielder since Carlos Soler’s dreadful loan stint ended. Additionally, Edson Alvarez has departed from the London Stadium to complete a loan move to Fenerbahce.
Meanwhile, Guido Rodriguez faces an uncertain future at West Ham after an underwhelming debut season with the East London outfit. So, Pellegrini has emerged as a viable target, with recent reports claiming he is open to joining West Ham United. The latest report has revealed that the Hammers are “intensifying their relationship with the player’s entourage” to find an agreement on personal terms.
Meanwhile, AS Roma will not demand a sizeable fee to part ways with Pellegrini, having slapped a meagre price tag of €10 million on him. With only one week remaining in the summer transfer window, it will be interesting to see if West Ham can land the 29-year-old Italian international.
