Federico Chiesa no longer wants to leave Liverpool, with his agent telling the Merseyside club about his “clear desire” to stay at Anfield beyond the summer transfer window.
According to an update by reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Federico Chiesa has made a u-turn on his stance towards his future with Liverpool. While the Italian international previously wanted to depart from Anfield in the summer transfer window after a dreadful debut season with the Merseyside outfit, he wants to remain with the club for at least one more campaign.
The Genova native seriously mulled over leaving Liverpool when the Premier League champions rejected bids to sell Luis Diaz in June and July. However, with the Colombian international joining Bayern Munich in a big-money deal, Chiesa feels he has more space and can “open a new chapter” at the club, particularly after his match-winning goal in the Premier League last week.
Federico Chiesa and his Liverpool career so far
Federico Chiesa saw his struggles amplify after joining Liverpool from Juventus last summer. While the 27-year-old was a low-risk signing for the Merseyside club, he barely made his mark and could not even complete 500 minutes of game time across 14 appearances for Liverpool, managing only two goals and two assists.
However, Chiesa may feel he can turn things around at Anfield after scoring the match-winning goal against Bournemouth last week. That may be the case, as Arne Slot heaped praise on the Italian international after the match. Additionally, the former Juventus winger has decided to commit his short-term future to Liverpool.
What next?
Widespread reports have linked Federico Chiesa with a move away from Liverpool. The Premier League champions have been ready to cash in on the former Fiorentina winger, with Arne Slot happy to sanction his sale. Meanwhile, there has been no shortage of suitors pursuing Chiesa’s signature in the summer transfer window.
Serie A clubs, in particular, have been keen on signing Chiesa, with the player reportedly mulling over returning to his homeland to secure regular game time. However, the player has made a u-turn on his stance towards his Liverpool future.
The 27-year-old Italian international feels he has more space and can “open a new chapter” at the Merseyside club, with his match-winning goal against Bournemouth adding to his belief. So, with Chiesa committed to Liverpool, a summer departure will not come to fruition.
