Manchester United are not likely to recoup a big fee for Rasmus Hojlund even if he ends up departing amid links to AC Milan.
According to Football Insider, Manchester United are likely to suffer a blow in their quest to recoup an important fee for Rasmus Hojlund. AC Milan are keen to close a deal with the Red Devils for the Danish striker, but they are unwilling to guarantee the £40 million the Premier League giants seek in return.
Rasmus Hojlund’s future is up in the air as his days at Old Trafford are numbered as things stand. The arrival of Benjamin Sesko has added to the need to offload a striker from the current squad, and it’s the Dane who is looking more likely to move on, albeit reluctantly.
Hojlund had indicated his willingness to stay and fight for a place, but it appears the club have told him that minutes will be hard to come by. As per Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Manchester United have kept him out of the squad to face Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League, which might be the biggest indication so far of their willingness to offload the striker.
Signed from Atalanta in a £72 million deal, Rasmus Hojlund has had two ineffective seasons at Old Trafford. The arrival of Sesko does allow Manchester United to aggressively move him on, with AC Milan reportedly close to an agreement for the striker.
The Rossoneri are open to taking the £72 million Manchester United prospect on an initial loan deal with a buy option in place. However, the Red Devils are probably looking for guarantees and are seeking at least £40 million from the sale of the striker.
Manchester United could suffer Rasmus Hojlund blow
Having invested heavily in the striker, the club are unlikely to recoup a significant fee from his departure. AC Milan are closing in on an agreement, but they are unwilling to pay the requested £40 million and could potentially only include a buy option in the loan deal worth around £35-40 million, which does not give Manchester United guarantees as this is not a buy obligation.
With the club willing to bide their time before making a concrete decision on Rasmus Hojlund, they are unlikely to recoup a major fee in return. Hence, it will come as a blow to their finances and demonstrate how bad an investment the Dane has been.
