Goncalo Ramos wants PSG stay amid Newcastle United, Manchester United links

Manchester United and Newcastle United have reportedly been keen on signing 24-year-old Portuguese international Goncalo Ramos from PSG in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Graeme Bailey on TBR Football, Goncalo Ramos is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing another striker in the summer transfer window despite securing Benjamin Sesko’s services. So, the 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain centre-forward has emerged as a target.

However, the Olhao native wants to remain at PSG beyond the summer transfer window, thus dealing a blow to Manchester United’s prospects. However, Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Ramos have not ended, and the Magpies remain optimistic about landing the PSG striker in the summer transfer window. But the French club’s asking price of €80 million complicates matters.

Goncalo Ramos and his PSG problems

Goncalo Ramos has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining Paris Saint-Germain from SL Benfica. Les Parisiens initially signed the 24-year-old on loan in August 2023 before completing the permanent move in January 2024. However, he has been in and out of the starting lineup in the last two seasons.

The Portuguese international has 87 outings thus far for PSG while chipping in with 34 goals and eight assists. However, Ramos’s stock in the market remains high, with Premier League outfits, in particular, keen on signing him. Manchester United and Newcastle United are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature. But Ramos wants to remain with PSG beyond the summer transfer window.

Premier League move on the horizon?

Manchester United’s links with Goncalo Ramos may be surprising. However, widespread rumours have linked Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee with Serie A clubs. So, the struggling Premier League giants can do with a new striker if both attackers leave, with Ramos emerging as a viable target. However, the former Benfica striker’s desire to remain at PSG has created a roadblock for Manchester United.

As for Newcastle United, Alexander Isak faces an uncertain future at St. James’ Park amid his desperate desire to join Liverpool. With the Tyneside outfit parting ways with Callum Wilson as a free agent, they need at least one striker this summer. So, Ramos has emerged as a viable target for Newcastle United.

Despite the 24-year-old Portuguese striker’s eagerness to remain at PSG, the Magpies remain optimistic about securing his services. However, PSG’s asking price of €80 million and Ramos’s wage demands may scupper the move. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the PSG striker.
